Founding Partners Named to New Positions of Authority in DeKalb County

LITHONIA, GA – The three founding partners of Burroughs Johnson Hopewell, LLC, Mereda Davis Johnson, Robert A. Burroughs and Genet Hopewell were named to serve DeKalb County decision-making boards of authority in the first quarter of 2008.

Mereda Davis Johnson, wife of Congressman Hank Johnson, was appointed to the DeKalb County Hospital Authority by the DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones in 2008. Robert A. Burroughs was elevated to the position of Chair of the DeKalb County Board of Tax Assessors, also in January, 2008 and Genet Hopewell received a CEO appointment to the DeKalb County Public Safety and Judicial Facilities Authority on February 26, 2008.

The DeKalb County Hospital Authority has jurisdiction over land purchased, sold or leased for DeKalb Medical. The DeKalb CEO appoints all nine members of the hospital authority’s board. DeKalb Medical is a not-for-profit hospital system that includes the 451- bed DeKalb Medical at North Decatur, the 76-bed DeKalb Medical at Downtown Decatur and the 100-bed DeKalb Medical at Hillandale in Lithonia.

The Board of Assessors' members are appointed to fixed terms, as defined by state law. The DeKalb County Board of Tax Assessors is the agency charged with the responsibility of establishing the fair market value of property for ad valorem taxation purposes. The Public Safety and Judicial Facilities Authority was created as a vehicle to build the facilities needed to keep pace with growing infrastructure requirements necessary to support fire fighters, police offices and court systems in DeKalb County.
