Founding Partners Named to New Positions of Authority in DeKalb County
LITHONIA, GA – The three founding partners of Burroughs Johnson Hopewell, LLC,
Mereda Davis Johnson, Robert A. Burroughs and Genet Hopewell were named to serve
DeKalb County decision-making boards of authority in the first quarter of 2008.
Mereda Davis Johnson, wife of Congressman Hank Johnson, was appointed to the
DeKalb County Hospital Authority by the DeKalb County CEO Vernon Jones in 2008.
Robert A. Burroughs was elevated to the position of Chair of the DeKalb County Board of
Tax Assessors, also in January, 2008 and Genet Hopewell received a CEO appointment
to the DeKalb County Public Safety and Judicial Facilities Authority on February 26,
2008.
The DeKalb County Hospital Authority has jurisdiction over land purchased, sold or
leased for DeKalb Medical. The DeKalb CEO appoints all nine members of the hospital
authority’s board. DeKalb Medical is a not-for-profit hospital system that includes the 451-
bed DeKalb Medical at North Decatur, the 76-bed DeKalb Medical at Downtown Decatur
and the 100-bed DeKalb Medical at Hillandale in Lithonia.
The Board of Assessors' members are appointed to fixed terms, as defined by state law.
The DeKalb County Board of Tax Assessors is the agency charged with the responsibility
of establishing the fair market value of property for ad valorem taxation purposes.
The Public Safety and Judicial Facilities Authority was created as a vehicle to build the
facilities needed to keep pace with growing infrastructure requirements necessary to
support fire fighters, police offices and court systems in DeKalb County.
